Beer and music have always been a part of The Great Britain Hotel, with a great reputation for a variety of craft beer and cider on tap and the added bonus of great live music.
With that in mind, we've chosen to showcase three sour/wild beers for the whole of Good Beer Week to provide a refreshing introduction to craft beer’s tart side!
- Moon Dog's Mr Mistoffelees - It’s summer, and it’s hot! What could be more delicious than an annual release of Mr Mistoffelees - a passion fruit and mango wild ale?! It’s packed full of complex sour, acidic and funky wild ale characters (from the 6+ months of aging with various bugs and brettanomyces strains) and balances that with passion fruit and mango tropical sweetness. Yum!
- Mash Brewing: Wizz Fizz 3rd Edition - Dry-Hopped This ancient German beer style was favoured by Napoleon Bonaparte whom dubbed it the "Champagne of the North". Mashed wheat and barley along with aged hop flowers create a sweet home for the yeast and lactic acid bacteria to get to work. Bread and sherbet aromas and a thirst quenching acidic finish are balanced with a crisp floral fruit character from heavy dry-hopping at the final stages of production.
- Rodenbach Grand Cru is a blend of 1/3 young beer and 2/3 of beer aged two years in large oak vats. The more important proportion of oak matured beer contributes to its fruity taste, complexity and intensity.
